As he pleaded guilty on July 1 to the upstate slaying, prosecutors revealed his bizarre change of heart before slaughtering the 44-year-old Folkes-Taylor. “He told the detectives that after he had killed his then current wife he felt bad, and he knew he had to come to Schenectady to kill his former wife because he harbored so much animosity toward her and in his words, she, unlike his first victim, deserved it,” the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday after Taylor pleaded guilty at a July 1 hearing. |

Prosecutors in Colorado plan to drop charges against a registered sex offender accused of trying to kidnap a child from an elementary school because he was found incompetent to stand trial. The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, which covers Arapahoe County and includes Aurora and Littleton, informed FOX31 on Friday that it intends to dismiss charges against Solomon Galligan. The 33-year-old faces one count of attempted kidnapping after he allegedly tried to take an 11-year-old boy during recess at Black Forest Hills Elementary School in April 2024. Aurora police previously reported that Galligan is a registered sex offender, with his registration tied to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office. After his arrest, Galligan underwent a mental competency evaluation that determined he was unfit to stand trial. As a result, prosecutors claimed they have no choice but to drop the charges. Kevin Ray James, the male negro convicted in the infamous slaying of bank teller Monica Leech during a 1997 bank robbery in Thousand Oaks, has been sentenced to at least 19 years in prison.
James learned of his fate last Friday, with a Ventura County judge sentencing him to 19 years to life in state prison for his role in one of the most notorious crimes in the county’s history. James pleaded guilty to the crime on May 16, admitting that he shot Leech in the back of the head while she and other hostages at the bank were handcuffed. He was one of two men who entered the Western Financial Bank in Thousand Oaks on April 28, 1997, posing as construction workers and demanding cash from the vault. Several of the employees were handcuffed and forced to the ground as James looked over them, while the other suspect, who has never been identified, led three employees to the vault. For reasons that were never made clear, James shot 39-year-old Monica Leech, a mother of four, in the back of the head while she was handcuffed alongside her colleagues. Leech, a Camarillo resident, had only been working on the bank for a few months before her death, and witnesses said she was cooperating throughout the ordeal. After killing Leech and robbing the vault, James and his accomplice fled with [ONLY] approximately $11,000. They crashed their Ford Explorer during the escape, but were able to get away on foot. "The main cog in this whole problem was the processing system of a career criminal that eventually escalated to executing Logan Federico," Logan's father, Stephen Federico, told Fox News Digital. Ema, a 5-year-old girl was shot through the leg — with the bullet lodged in her sippy cup — during a terrifying rush-hour road rage incident in North Carolina.
Charles Edward Stevenson Jr., 20, is accused of firing a single shot at the girl’s dad, who was driving a Ford F150 on US Route 1 near Raleigh before 8 p.m. Monday. But the bullet pierced through little Ema’s right leg, local network WRAL reported. The slug was later found in the girl’s sippy cup. “Your stomach just drops all the way down,” Aubree Allison, the girl’s aunt, told WRAL of the heart-stopping encounter. “What an image that is. And it’s nothing that you hope happens in your own life,” she added in regards to the bullet found in the cup. Ema’s dad told cops that Stevenson was driving erratically on the major thoroughfare — with the 20-year-old throwing something out of his window at another car, which had instead hit the F150. When Ema’s dad, whose name was not released, rolled down his window to yell at Stevenson, the young man fired a single bullet at the pick-up truck, which ended up striking the innocent girl. She was rushed to a local hospital and underwent emergency surgery. Ema’s family has since revealed that she has undergone several successful surgeries but is now missing a chunk of her leg, WRAL reported. |

ICE nabs July 4 groper who was allowed to walk free thanks to sanctuary laws
Immigration agents nabbed an illegal immigrant who sexually assaulted an American woman on Independence Day years earlier — and was let go by local cops thanks to sanctuary laws in Portland, Oregon, The Post has learned. 
Mexican illegal immigrant Kevin Contreras-Mendoza, 27, followed a woman on the street in Portland on July, 4, 2018, before grabbing her from behind and violently groping her as she cried out for help, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
“This Independence Day, Americans are safer with this SICKO off our streets,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Insanely, Oregon authorities failed to honor his detainer to turn him over to ICE. Instead, they released this sex offender into American communities. Thanks to the leadership of President Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem, ICE is empowered to arrest and remove sexual predators like Contreras-Mendoza who threaten the freedoms and safety of Americans,” McLaughlin added. The woman’s screams were heard by two bystanders, who chased Contreras-Mendoza as he fled. He was ultimately captured on Sept. 13, 2018, and handed a conviction in 2019. “These … are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens,” Trump said last month, referring to an effort to “flood” sanctuary cities with ICE agents. And with the passage of Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill Act, the mass deportation effort will only be “turbocharged” with new funding to hold up to 100,000 illegal immigrants at a time, according to DHS. She never saw his face but watched as he “skipped away,” she said. A Good Samaritan who witnessed the attack described what she saw to police, said Harkins. Cops believe recidivist Edwin Wright was the attacker and are still looking for him, police sources said. Wright, 39, whose last known address was a Bowery homeless shelter and who has five prior arrests, was already wanted on a bench warrant for a random November assault that happened nearby, police sources said. That time, the 5-foot-11, 210-pound Wright allegedly punched a 15-year-old girl in the back of the neck at Broadway and John Street as she walked to school around 8 a.m. Nov. 21, police sources said. Wright was charged with two counts of assault, one count of attempted assault and one count of harassment, according to a criminal complaint. But Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Kacie Lally freed him on supervised release. Wright never showed up for his May 6 court hearing in the case, leading to an arrest warrant, officials said. While he was on the street, he allegedly committed another assault, sucker-punching a 54-year-old stranger in the back of the head around 8:30 a.m. on March 10 at William and Fulton streets, cops said.
